Dr. Jonathan Hirsch brings a rare and distinguished dual board certification in both veterinary surgery and ophthalmology — a distinction held by only a small number of veterinarians nationwide.
A Charlottesville native, Dr. Hirsch earned his undergraduate degree from Randolph-Macon College and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech. He completed a surgical residency at UC Davis and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He later pursued advanced ophthalmology training through a residency at Animal Eye Care of Richmond, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
Prior to joining AECR in 2020, Dr. Hirsch served as a staff surgeon in practices across California and Virginia. His combined expertise allows him to approach complex ophthalmic cases with exceptional surgical depth and precision.
Outside of work, Dr. Hirsch enjoys running, fishing, and spending time with his family.
