Ocular Oncology

Ocular oncology focuses on diagnosing and treating cancers that affect the eye and surrounding tissues.

About This Service

Ocular oncology focuses on diagnosing and treating cancers that affect the eye and surrounding tissues. These tumors may develop within the eye itself or in nearby structures such as the eyelids, conjunctiva, orbit (eye socket), or skin around the eye.

Some tumors are benign, while others are malignant and require prompt treatment. Early evaluation by a veterinary ophthalmologist is often the best way to determine the nature of a growth and the most appropriate course of action.

Signs your pet may have an eye tumor:

  • A lump or growth on or around the eye
  • Changes in eye color
  • Redness or swelling
  • Persistent tearing
  • Bleeding around the eye
  • Bulging of one eye
  • Vision changes
  • Cloudiness within the eye
  • Squinting or signs of discomfort

Because many eye tumors resemble less serious conditions, a comprehensive examination is important for an accurate diagnosis.

At Animal Eye Care of Richmond, we diagnose and treat a wide range of ocular and periocular cancers, including tumors affecting the eyelids, skin surrounding the eyes, structures within the eye, and the orbit (eye socket). Our team provides advanced evaluation and treatment options tailored to each patient to help preserve comfort, vision, and quality of life.
